In Iva Kosmarin's dog-eared notebook, amid clockwork schematics and hastily scrawled notes, lays a poem in neat rows of cursive.

We were given over a hundred years,
a century and beyond to live our lives.

But it wasn't enough.

We slaughtered our enemy, made them regret
the day they touched the planet of stone.

But it wasn't enough.

We welcomed the strangers into our homes,
we sent them away, had no part in the war.

But it wasn't enough.

They chased us all down from world to world,
the reasons lost, confused, blurred.

But it wasn't enough.

We walked immortal among the stars,
cured diseases, formed whole worlds.

But it wasn't enough.

Will anything here give us reason to stop,
To breathe, to rest, to lay down our arms?
Can we ever find peace?
Would we accept it if we did?

Can it ever be enough?
