Sushi cocked her head to one side. " Yeah, well, that's one of those things, a whatyacallit, a conundrum, huh? "

She shoved his weapons on top of the already ungainly armload of gear and bounded off to her corner of the garage and began rooting around in one of several boxes- apparently she kept all of her personal possessions in a motley assortment of duffel bags, boxes and parts bins filled with a confusion of parts, clothes, books, dataptablets, old newsflimsies and retrieved a large box marked GRIBBLIES! PORK RIND FLAVORED SNACK CHIPS. She began pulling from it socks, colorful panties and bras (affording Hawkins the dubious insight as to her preference for stripes, pastels and floral patterns), and finally wound up with a battered handcomputer.

She sauntered over and clambering onto a crate sat ( still a bit stiffly) on it, her feet a foot off the floor, and kicking them absently gave Hawkins a stern look.

"Stay put, you! ", and after a brief glare and wagged finger she hunched over the tab, making furious keypad entries, ostentatiously leaning away when he leaned in on look at her progress. " Nuh uh! No peeking, you wily Cassian you.Shoo, stand over there an, I dunno, scowl at something. Give the hoverbike some dirty looks, it wants fixing anyway."

She glared at him until he complied, and then furtively went back to work, tongue sticking slightly out of the corner of her mouth as she concentrated, the only sound being a frenzied series of beeps, boops, and dinks of data entry, a strange warbling tone coming from it.

" I'm adjusting your nanite matrix, so stay in range, and never mind the noise, that's just the carrier wave interference with the code resolution and data input series of WiFi transmissions."

In reality, she furiously struggled with the boss level of Space Invaders, and made a show of it, which wasn't hard because this boss was a bitchkitty to get past. She was also pondering furiously as what to do - because in reality the so called leash she had put on Hawkins was really nothing more than an elaborate lie. She had disabled his nanites when she had knocked him out, and was able to disable his UI- so, he couldn't activate them, nor access their status so he didn't have a clue what they were doing.

But that was all - she'd been unable to do more as he had regained consciousness too quickly, and so she had resorted to the hasty, elaborate and (hopefully) plausible fib of activated destruction on being tied to her biosigns and a limited range of distance. Ok, it wasn't the best, but under the circumstances it was all she could come up with on the fly.

She was sure it was plausible, she had read it in one of her favorite of the penny dreadful holos of Marcus Markson, Space Adventurer! - a long running series of action holos that combined penny dreadful westerns with B grade Sci Fi films with harlequin Bodice Ripper romance novels - and all eighty three of them starring Marcus Markson, a blonde, statuesque stunningly handsome and revoltingly muscular holostar with the teeth of Michelangeloe's David, the screen presence of The Rock and with the acting ability of a terminally brain damaged Arnold Shwarzengger.

She paused, thinking, then shook her head - nah, what right thinking Cassian scion of the noble houses would ever deign to read such trash? Eh, totally their loss!

And anyway, what choice did she have? Options were limited and her own safety aside, if everyone else thought he was dangerous his life expectancy could have been measured in milliseconds, which would be a shame because that was no way to treat a prisoner. The other consideration was simply that she was frankly scared of him - she'd seen him in action before and was keenly aware of his capabilities, even without his nanotech augmentation, and she held him in the same cautious esteem as a starving stemdragon, always prepared to bite at the least provocation.

Besides, she'd promised, and a promise was a promise. The fact that he had saved her life ( twice!) hadn't gone unforgotten, and even if it seemed to make him doubly constipated to be reminded of it, she still felt she owed him at least that much.

She hopped down, and theatrically waved the handcomp up and down in his general direction, carefully keeping the screen hidden from him, the unseen alien saucer making a warblewarblewarblewarble noise as it crossed the screen, and then quickly triggered a rapid 15 degree nanite heat bloom, shutting them down in five seconds - a simple feature that the nanites had to keep their user warm in cold climates. But it also would feel just like a heat spike - so, whats a little sweat in the name of good theatrics?

" Ok, there. Never mind the heat, yer not blowin' up or nothin', that's just the nanites reacting to a primary global state change.
(she said, lying through her teeth with the conviction of the deeply scared) Now I've set it up so you are linked to any of us, so, you can range within 100 meters of any member of the base team now. Of course, if you get far away, or I get like totally eaten, killed, flayed, stoned by the peasants, blown up or fed to lionsharks, well, its FLOOEY for you., But now ya got options, yanno? So don't fret, Mama Sushi has got it fixed for ya."

She shut off the comp and shoved it in the pocket of her overhalls, and rocked back and forth on her heels. " So, there ya go. If the guys can use your help, you can like totally go lend a hand in clear concience, or whatever it is you use, 'kay? And sorry bout your bike, again. "

In the Garage...

“Oh look at you, using all the big words now...” Hawkens replied sarcastically as he eyed the pair of claws now balancing on his supplies. He was still wary of the gesture, even as he moved to place the clothing on his hovebike so he could get a better look at them.

Their weight was familiar, almost comforting. The Cassian turned the weapons over in his hands, eying them with a fondness one might reserve for their favored pet. As Sushi bounded off excitedly, he set to work strapping on the alloy blades. Almost instantly the agent was met with a bout of sadness. Without the feeling of his nanites, there was no true integration with the weapons, no extension of self. He hated to admit it, but it even made his own claws feel a bit clumsy in his hold.

Turning baleful eyes on the cause of his discomfort, the agent gave a startled sound as he was treated to the displeasure of watching her pull her datapad from her undergarments. As she made her way stiffly atop the nearby crates, he watched her as a predator might watch prey with an obvious limp, testing for weakness. There was a bigger game they were playing here. He was sure of it.

Taking a step forwards, Hawkens paused as Sushi scolded him and wiggled her finger at him. His wrists twitched, it was humiliating that every Exile /scum/ here thought the right to order him around or hush him like some misbehaved mongrel. Part of him wanted nothing more than to wipe that smug look off her face but the rest of him could not help but remember the times he saved her life. The end result: the agent huffed something defensively and stormed over towards his bike.

Agent Hawkens listened to the sounds emanating from Sushi's datapad as he paced, keeping at eye on her as he got used to the feeling of his claws on his arms again. He still couldn't help shake the feeling that there was something more hidden from here in this deadly dance, but he couldn't place it. The logic in his capture...it bit and scratched at the back of his mind but he was unable to pin the beast. The very effort he would need to hunt down the 'wrongness' would leave him dead. He had no idea that, at this very moment, his own noble heritage was his downfall. For now, he was bound to the pint-sized mechanic's words until the right time came.

And he was a very patient hunter.

The Cassian was midstep when the heat trigger of his nanites flared. Normally a rather pleasant warmth, the fear of all previous threats came crashing down and he rounded on Sushi, his claws slipping free of their sheaths before he realized. With a bitter look, he snapped them back in as she reassured him to not fear. Even moreso than the embarrassment at his panic, the temporary joy of the connection of flesh and technology so swiftly torn from him again was maddening.

And so he stared and listened as Sushi explained the new methods of his leash. He figured she had rigged his 'bomb' trigger to the comm units of the others in order to pass him around. It's what he would have done at the very least and the only thing that made sense as he highly doubted she magically had a blood pattern link to each one.

Once she was finished, he paused, considering.

“And how do you propose I get there? Will you follow until I meet up with the range of the others?”

At the Shuttle

Kanko stood, using Gerick’s sword as a walking stick. “That’s enough of waiting around and planning… we’ve got to do something.” He looked up at the roof of the ship. “…when you’re done healing my foot a bit.” He said almost as if he disregarded her lack of ability at it. “…I want to see if you can make three of those blades. Simple long dagger styles are what I’m looking for.” He said as he looked back down at her.

Kanko was clever in the sense of his stealth. While he had methods to deal with special vision mods such as heat and inferred. He lacked any ability to stop EM vision mods. Though he could access it himself. The chance of a random sniper using a long range weapon for electro-magnetic currents was odd and slim at best. He was willing to take the chance. “They won’t need to be sharp, just… need them to stab.”

With the sword in hand, he cloaked once more. Sadly, the blade of Gaius didn’t cloak with him. “That’s… unfortunate…” He said as he returned into vision. “Well, it won’t hinder the plan. I’ll need to do this with my own blades then. Get back into the ship and move out from there. If all goes well… we’ll get out of here safely. While I’m messing with the cables… see if there’s any weapons on this shuttle. Anything at all…” He said as he leaned onto the sword as he waited.

Flitter Rescue Squad:

Gaius nodded an affirmative and carefully stalked his way along the length of the forcefield, moving farther west. He pushed some brush aside to get a view of the ship and the field before them, trying to see if he could spot any of the mines they'd warned of.

He spoke into his comm unit, keeping his eyes on the ship.

[Alright folks. Steppin' through the shield now, gonna make a run for the ship, see if I can get cover behind the ship, get my saw at those cables.]

With that, Gaius straightened up and took a deep breath, steadying himself. Arms up in a defensive stance, he stepped forward quickly through the forcefield. A wave of pain wracked Gaius's body and he ground his teeth. His arms twitched involuntarily as the electric shock wore off, leaving every hair on him standing up. He cast a quick glance around. The snipers surely must have seen that discharge of the field. Not waiting for them to have time to aim, he bolted towards the ship, eyes on the ground in front of him, attempting to dodge any mines he could.

Carna sighs and kneels by Kanko's bad foot. She waves her hands slightly and begins to wave them, a golden light emanating from them. A small wisp of golden light, that almost looks like a wrap bandage appears and Carna begins to weave it around Kanko's foot wrapping it. She purposefully tugs the wrap tight to give the other Aurin a bit of pain before the wrap began to demateralize into the skin to help in the healing process.

"THat will help," Carna says, "I can see if the-Wait!" Carna tries to call into the comm system to no avail, "Seems we might be that distraction after all. Hurry! I'll see what I can do in here." Carna says then turns to look around the shuttle. She wished she knew how to pilot this thing.

Gaius pushed through, and the crackling of the forcefield was accompanied by a corona of electrical arcs. Gaius was right, too, as it didn't go unnoticed.

KRAK KRAK KRAK KRAK

Gaius spun around as bullets impacted his shields, which flared at the impacts - bruising punches chafed at hiom, thoughhj none penetrated, but the whine of his shield generator spooling told him it could only do so much as he ran, as more reports and dust spumed up near him with the snapFWAP of near misses going past his body tugging at his coat. Rounds passing over Nebbs head made a disturbing SNAP as they went by!

In his spot, Bunk saw backflashes form shooters - two of them! One was under the dead word fall,( almost so good a position no sniper would miss using it) the other at the north northwest position, dust kicked up by the rifles blast giving his position away - they'd set up to provide a crossfire in the clearing.

Bunk recognized they were using either rail guns or firearms - kinetic weapons were the sniper choice,m for as hard hitting as plasma weapons were, their long range accuracy as abysmal and their bulk, flash and report made them impossible to hide. His ears and eyes gave him the range...well within reach of his own rifle.

In the shuttle, Carna and Kanko couldn't miss the gunfire, as richots SPANGSPANGTUNK sounded on the hull.

At the Shuttle

Kanko watched, he remembered how his father used to mend his own wounds when he was a kid. Though the extent of this time was far worse than anything he walked home with. It was a friendly reminder of his past. All until the tug snapped him from it with a small wince. The aurin pulled his foot up and looked it over. Peeling off what remained of his shoe. With the small moment, he kicked off his other boot finding his feet better when they matched.

The hail of bullets was a sure sign of some kind of distraction. Even without the blades Carna was to give him. Kanko moved through the ship to see where what was going on. Gaius had emerged from the woods and was making a straight line, though avoiding mines, to the ship. Kanko clenched the sword in hand and pivoted his foot. “Gaius!” Yelled out the aurin, torquing his body to fling the heavy blade up and out of the open bay. It would land before Gaius, well out of the way of hitting him. But it would end up somewhere in his path. Kanko kept the momentum of the moment. Engaging his stealth and shields once again as he leapt up to the top of the ship using mainly his upper body strength.

Even with Gaius distracting most of the fire, ricochet was dangerous for him as well. Even a flicker of his shield had a chance to give him away. He worked quickly, moving between two of the tied lines and erecting the blades from his wrist. Though only one was left on his left wrist, it was still sharp enough to cut through the metal. The tip of the blades seemed to curl around the cables and almost gripped it like a snake began to coil around it’s prey. Energy suddenly flooded the blades as he pulled against the metal on both sides. Even if he managed to cut these two, there was still one more.

Go, Team Flitter... er, With the Flitter Rescue Team:

Stealth and patience are not the hallmarks of a spellslinger, but even the most impulsive 'slinger can adapt when the alternative is being shot.

It had taken her far longer than she would've liked, but Pax had finally managed to creep around the circumference of the shield far enough to take up a position opposite Nebbs. This gave her a clear view of the shuttle, albeit not a particularly good view of those who had been in the shuttle. She crouched half under a tree, trying to get a clear line of sight on the raiders, to determine whether or not they were watching the shuttle closely.

And then she jolted upwards in shock, bouncing her head off a low-hanging branch with a muttered curse, when Gaius pushed through the shield and the bullets started flying. "Well, that ain't good."

Rubbing her head irritably, the spellslinger quickly scanned the area again, trying to assess what was happening now. The raiders were far too far away for her to reach with any cantrip—or with bullets—or even her furthest teleportation skill. But Gaius' misfortune—and the raiders' resulting new focus—provided a convenient opening for her as well; for a few moments, neither of the raiders was likely to be watching the shuttle.

She flipped her commlink. "Healer incomin'. If y'see somethin' 'portin' in, I'd appreciate it if y' didn't shoot." Then, without really waiting for a reply, Pax drew her pistols, took a deep breath and turned her attention entirely to the shuttle. "Time t' go!" she muttered, and then tore her way into the Void once again. Through the shield, and into the shadow of the shuttle. And, hopefully, comrades who had heard her commlink message and were not feeling too trigger-happy.

Edge of the Woods (Hoverbike Chase):

The trees came crashing down behind Gerick as he speed past their exploded trunks. He looked back in hopes that he had gotten one or two of them but was met with disappointment as they started finagling around the downed trees.

"C'mon Gerick think!" He couldn't escape these goons and he didn't want to bring them back to the shuttle. That only left him with one unfortunate option.

Swallowing hard he quickly pulled the bike around a rock with a tree growing up over it. Quickly he dismounted and leaned his back against the rock and peering around the side. He pulled out his pistols quietly and held them to his chest. The runes etched across them began to slowly glow brighter and brighter as blood continued to trickle out of his wounds. He only had one shot at this and really didn't have anything planed whether it succeeded or not.

As the grinders rounded the far of corner he waited for his chance. The runes were almost blinding now as they glowed brightly. Finally he saw his chance as the raiders nearly lined up on each other. He flipped around the corner and leveled both guns and unleashed a charged shot at the lot nearly losing his own footing from the recoil.

Flitter Ship Action Force:

"SHIT SHIT FRIK!" Gaius cried as the impacts nearly sent him splaying to the ground. Blue light flickered close around his body where the bullets hit. None pierced, but the shield could only dampen so much energy and he just had to soak the rest. He was going to have some pretty colors if he managed to live through this mess.

He could hear the bullets, even feel the ones that made it close enough to tug at his coat, tearing holes in the flapping cloth. He kept running, long legs eating up the distance, but of the bunch he was likely the biggest target.

And then, a glorious white-haired angel appeared, bearing in its divine hands his Tech Sword. Oh, that crazy bossy Aurin, he didn't know how he'd gotten his hands on it, but Gaius could practically kiss him! He watched as the sword flew in a slow arch, spinning round and round until it pierced itself into the ground some distance away. Gaius diverted his course, a new burst of speed coming from his bolstered determination. He caught the sword hilt in both hands, not slowing a beat as it pulled from the ground, and he ran with it trailing by his side, held low. The familiar grip warmed in his hands. Seeing Kanko disappear in a haze of flickering light, Gaius swerved away to round the other side of the ship, towards the cables holding it down. Using the momentum he'd built up in his mad dash, Gaius brought the sword in an upward arc across his chest, swinging at the cables. Rather than stop, he continued the momentum, spinning round and round in a dizzying whirlwind maneuver, feet working fast to keep him from toppling under his own inertia. He only hoped he could hit the cables before the snipers managed to hit him!
